Dankwart Schmidt, trombone

Professor for Brass, Festival Brass 2012

Dankwart Schmidt was born in Ochenbruck (Nürnberg). After his studies at the conservatory Nürnberg and at the universities of Hannover and Munich he played trombone at the Hannover State Theatre, the Bavarian State Opera and with the orchestra of the Bayreuther Festspiele. Since 1976 he holds the position as solo trombone of the Munich Philharmonic orchestra. Furthermore he played with "German Brass", "Opera Brass" and "Blechschaden". Between 1977 and 1989 he taught at the universities of music at Munich, Weimar, Copenhagen, Michigan and Santiago de Chile. As conductor he assisted to Zubin Mehta. He also worked as professor at the conservatory of Munich.
D.Schmidt is active as composer and in arranging peaces for brass and has also been teaching several master classes throughout the last years. In 2005 he coached the brass of the INTERNATIONALE JUNGE ORCHESTERAKADEMIE for the first time.
