Prof. Veit-Peter Schüssler (double bass)

Veit-Peter Schüssler was born in Tübingen. Already at the age of 13 he became a student at the University for Music Cologne. Later on he studied conducting, piano and double bass in the class of Prof. P. Breuer, Prof. W. Güttler, Prof. G. Klaus, Prof. F. Petracchi and Prof. C. Wallner and graduated with a concert degree. As "Stipendiat der Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes" he finished his studies at the Conservatoire de Musique Geneva being awarded a „Premier Prix avec Distinction".
First holding the position as a solo double bass player at the NDR Radio Symphonic Orchester, Prof. Schüssler accepted a call from the University of Music in Cologne in 1993. From 1994 - 2001 he additionally taught at the University of Rostock. After several fixed-term engagements, such as at the royal theater of Copenhagen, he became freelancer for the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra.
Several of his students won first prices at international music competitions and are holding principle positions in famous orchestras.
Next to his teaching he performs as soloist and chamber musician. For the INTERNATIONALE JUNGE ORCHESTERAKADEMIE he has been teaching since 1996.
